Course Description

HND Hospitality Management will help you to develop your communication, supervisory and management skills - essential skills required for this dynamic fast-changing and expanding industry. The course is designed to prepare you for work at an intermediate level in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage or leisure management.

In year 1 there is a mandatory 80 hours of work experience that can be carried out throughout the year - excellent on-the-job training to prepare you for your future career. There will be opportunities for you to participate in a programme of visits to hotels and other businesses operating within the Hospitality/Events industry - these visits will give you further insight into the hospitality industry. There are also opportunities for you to take part in competition work and you are encouraged to take advantage of the many volunteering opportunities available to you as an HND hospitality student.

Year 2 will cover a range of management topics: Managing Financial Resources, Human Resource Management , Accommodation Management and Management of Food and Beverage Operations. In addition there will be specialist units such as Alcoholic Beverages and Hospitality Management Accounting. The course will ensure you are well prepared to progress onto further training opportunities at degree level or into employment. Although there is no mandatory work experience element in year 2 it is recommended that you continue to gain industry experience while studying - this will enable you to keep up to date with industry standards and skills while developing your theoretical knowledge in College - fantastic on-going career development within the industry.

Entry Requirements

HND year 1 

  • A minimum 1 grade C pass (or above) at Higher level from the following - English, Modern Studies, History, Religious Studies, Social Science, Psychology or Business Management (if you have 1 Higher in a subject not listed, we welcome your application)
  • And 3 National 5`s or 3 Standard Grades at Grade 3 or above (two of which should be Maths and English) 
  • Or satisfactory completion of appropriate SCQF 5 or 6 SQA course/units.
  • Or if you do not meet these criteria but have relevant work experience we welcome your application

HND year 2 

  • You must hold an HND Year 1 in Hospitality with 15 credits
