Course Description

You can choose to study this course as a part-time intensive option to help you balance your studies with other commitments. You will have classes on Saturdays through the academic year.

Course Content

This internationally respected BA Business Studies course has been designed to develop your practical skills as well as your knowledge of essential business concepts.

Your studies will give you a rounded understanding of the varied requirements of running a business. You will cover topics including:

  • human resource management
  • finance and accounting
  • marketing
  • operations management
  • ICT

We have strong links with major professional institutes, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Management Institute, the Institute of Direct Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Personnel. These links help us to evolve and advance your course content, so that you will graduate with current knowledge of business issues.

You will also gain full exemption for the academic requirements of the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), a valuable qualification for any aspiring manager.

We use a range of effective teaching methods, including:  

  • lectures to introduce new concepts, models and theories
  • task-based learning to develop your problem-solving skills and help you to relate theory to practice
  • group work to encourage you to share ideas and experiences discussion and reflection to encourage inquiry
  • seminar support, available through group and individual tutorials by arranged appointment
  • Blackboard, the University's online learning platform

Each member of staff brings a wealth of employment experience and knowledge into the classroom, helping you to translate theory into practice.

Internship

You can choose to take this course with a one-year internship at the end of your second year (Level 5). Upon completion of your placement year you will resume your final year studies. The internship will give you a combination of knowledge, skills and experience that will put you in a prime position to build a successful career in business.

 

Entry Requirements

112UCAS points requiredfrom level 3 qualifications

These can include:

  • A Levels at grade B, B and C, or above
  • BTEC Extended Diploma with Distinction, Merit, Merit
  • Access to HE Diploma

You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.

Mature applicants (aged 21+): If you do not hold the qualifications listed but have relevant work experience, you are welcome to apply. Your application will be considered on an individual basis.

Level 5 (year 2) entry
To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 120 undergraduate credits at Level 4 or a CertHE in a related subject area.

Level 6 (year 3) entry
To directly enter the third year of this course you need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 240 undergraduate credits (at Levels 4 and 5), a DipHE, Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area.
