Course Description

 

Our Business Studies with Marketing degree course has been designed to help you meet the many challenges of the complex, dynamic and exciting world of business. The emphasis of this course in on marketing and so we will focus on products, distribution, pricing and promotion, and how these affect consumer behaviour.

We have developed this course in partnership with public and private local business organisations to give you real-world understanding of the contemporary business landscape.

You will develop a critical understanding of ethical principles and practice, and an awareness of effective management and marketing practice. You will also gain an understanding of the many contexts in which businesses operate.

We’ll give you the information, tools, techniques and experience you need to devise creative solutions to the full range of business problems. The knowledge you will gain during this course is a real opportunity to start a rewarding career.

For over 50 years, our Business Studies degree has achieved a reputation for meeting educational and professional needs, both nationally and internationally.

This is a part-time intensive course, which means that you will be able to balance your studies with other commitments. You will have classes on Saturdays throughout the academic year. 

Course Content

UWL was among the first to offer a Business Studies degree, and the School maintains strong links with major professional institutes, including the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Management Institute, the Institute of Direct Marketing and the Chartered Institute of Personnel.

Everyone learns differently, so we employ a range of teaching methods to get the best out of all our students. Our methods include:

  • lectures, which introduce new concepts/models/theories and encourage participants to develop as independent learners
  • task-based learning to develop problem-solving skills and helps you relate theory to practice
  • group work, encouraging you to communicate, share ideas and experiences and learn from each other
  • discussion and reflection encourage inquiry, application and analysis, and help you take control of your own learning and experiment with the academic knowledge you have gained
  • seminar support is available through group and individual tutorials by arranged appointment
  • Blackboard, the University's online learning platform, supports the more traditional teaching methods.

 

Entry Requirements

 

112UCAS points requiredfrom level 3 qualifications

These can include:

  • A Levels at grade B, B and C, or above
  • BTEC Extended Diploma with Distinction, Merit, Merit
  • Access to HE Diploma

You also need GCSE English and Maths (grade 9 – 4 / A* - C) or Level 2 equivalents.

Mature applicants (aged 21+): If you do not hold the qualifications listed but have relevant work experience, you are welcome to apply. Your application will be considered on an individual basis.

Level 5 (year 2) entry
To directly enter the second year of this course you will need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 120 undergraduate credits at Level 4 or a CertHE in a related subject area.

Level 6 (year 3) entry
To directly enter the third year of this course you need to show appropriate knowledge and experience. For example, you are an ideal candidate if you have 240 undergraduate credits (at Levels 4 and 5), a DipHE, Foundation Degree or HND in a related subject area.
