Course Description

Our health and social care top-up degree is for professionals with a background in social care, housing, health or nursing who have a qualification at diploma level and need a degree for career progression. If you wish to qualify as a professional social worker, please see our Social Work course.

With the help of your lecturers, who are experts in the health and social care sector, you will gain theoretical and practical experience and knowledge of multi-professional and multi-agency teamwork. Full time

Year 1

Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.

  • Understanding Management in Health and Social Care (15 credits)
  • Research Methods in Health & Social Care (15 credits)
  • Academic Preparation (15 credits)
  • Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Care (30 credits)
  • Theory, Evidence and Practice in Public Health and Wellbeing Dissertation (30 credits)
  • Community Development and Engagement. (15 credits)

Part time

Year 1

Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.

  • Understanding Management in Health and Social Care (15 credits)
  • Research Methods in Health & Social Care (15 credits)
  • Academic Preparation (15 credits)
  • Community Development and Engagement. (15 credits)

Year 2

Students are required to study the following compulsory modules.

  • Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Care (30 credits)
  • Theory, Evidence and Practice in Public Health and Wellbeing Dissertation (30 credits)

 

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have successfully completed a Level 5 programme of study, such as one of the following:

  • A Diploma of Higher Education
  • A relevant foundation degree with a grade point average of at least 55%
  • A HND with a Merit profile.

We accept recognised alternative qualifications. 

Assessment Methods

On this course, students are assessed by:

  • Examinations
  • Coursework
