Course Description

(Option of Offshore and Ocean Technology MSc) Scholarships available - up to ?9,000 plus UK fees* Risk management is now the bedrock of many industries. A risk-based approach has been almost universally adopted in the offshore industry with the aim of providing better safety and improved protection for the environment. Cranfield s Risk Management course focuses on the key techniques used in the offshore industry. It addresses both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and explains which techniques are appropriate to different applications. This MSc course is accredited by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) for CEng, CMarTech and MIMarEST. The MSc has also been approved by the Energy Institute (EI) for membership, and as meeting the Engineering Council (UK)?s Further Learning requirements for Chartered Engineer registration under UK SPEC. The course comprises eight one-week modules, a group design project and an individual thesis project. The modules Students complete six core modules with a further two optional modules selected from the list below in consultation with the Course Director. Core modules ? Underwater Vehicles and Systems Group project The group project is an applied multi-disciplinary, team-based activity. It provides students with the opportunity to take responsibility for a consultancy-type project while working under academic supervision. Success is dependent on the integration of various activities and working within agreed objectives, deadlines and budgets. Individual thesis project Students select the individual project in consultation with the Course Director. The individual project provides students with the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to carry out independent research, think and work in an original way, contribute to knowledge, and overcome genuine problems in the offshore industry. Many of the projects are supported by external organisations. Suitable for management, science and engineering graduates from various backgrounds and disciplines and those working in the relevant sectors of the offshore and ocean-related industries. Takes you on to careers associated with project, system and asset risk management in the offshore and ocean-related sectors. You will be taught by members of the research and academic staff from the Reliability Engineering and Risk Management Group and Offshore Technology Group, together with staff from other academic departments and industrial representatives. Entry Requirements

Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve, a 1st or 2nd class UK Honours degree in a relevant science, engineering or related discipline, or the international equivalent of these UK qualifications.
