Aerodynamics MSc (Option of Aerospace Dynamics) Aerodynamics MSc (Option of Aerospace Dynamics) Cranfield University

Cranfield University

Masters Degree , Aerodynamics

Course Description

The continuing search for aerodynamic refinement and performance optimisation for the next generation of aircraft and surface vehicle creates the need for specialist knowledge of fluid flow behaviour. Environmental issues will ensure that aerodynamic refinement will dominate the next generation of civil transport aircraft, placing even greater emphasis on flight control and flight dynamic aspects. In the military arena Cranfield has unparalleled experience in the design and development of uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs). This has drawn heavily on aerodynamic modelling, using both wind tunnels and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), as well as flight dynamics. The Aerodynamics option is designed for students seeking a career in aerodynamic design, flow control, flow measurement or any sector in which an understanding of fluid flows plays a major role. Increasingly, skills in these areas are in demand in related sectors such as automotive, environmental, energy and medicine. Structure Taught component and group flight test 50% (assessed by a mixture of examinations and assignments), individual research thesis 50%. Specialist modules for the Aerodynamics option include: ? Engine Aerodynamics ? Launch and Re-Entry Aerodynamics ? Supercritical Aerofoil Design ? Experimental Aerodynamics ? Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics. Entry requirements A 1st or 2nd class UK honours degree (or equivalent) in mathematics, physics or an engineering discipline. Applicants who do not fulfil the standard entry requirements can apply for the Pre-Master s programme, successful completion of which will qualify them for entry to this course for a second year of study.
