MA Architectural Design MA Architectural Design De Montfort University
Masters Degree , Architectural Design
Course Description
The MA Architectural Design draws on a wide range of research and expertise within the School of Architecture and DMU as a whole. This ranges from technology, sustainability and urban design to the history and philosophy of architecture. The structure of the programme has been designed to allow students to follow one of these specialist areas in small studio groups, while at the same time engaging with broader theoretical debates that are pertinent to contemporary practice. The aim of the course is to establish a comprehensive understanding or architecture rooted in the humanities, mainly in history, (the most fundamental access to the given reality of architecture), and in philosophy, (the most essential form of reasoning), capable of integrating the knowledge of the specialised disciplines into a unified and meaningful whole. The integrative nature of the investigations opens the possibility to come to terms with the situational structure of architecture and can serve, at the same time, as a foundation for a more fully developed human ecology.
