Taught by extremely qualified and experienced staff The MA English Language Teaching (ELT) at DMU is ideal for those who have some previous experience of English language teaching and or ELT research. It explores contemporary research issues and a variety of teaching methodologies giving students the opportunity to broaden their understanding of the theoretical and practical issues that ELT teachers and learners face in the classroom. The practical course incorporates opportunities for students to teach English to groups of International students to develop their skills and prepare for employment as a teacher of English as a foreign language. The course also encourages reflection on where ELT is going in the 21st Century to ensure students are aware of major theoretical developments in this and cognate areas. It makes full use of the range of academic expertise within the department with modules designed to capitalise on this as well as offering the student variety and intellectual challenge. Modules include Trends and Issues in ELT Methodology, Teaching of Receptive and Productive Skills, Syllabus and Course Design, Teaching Practice, Applied Linguistics and Research Methods in ELT. Students will also choose a dissertation topic, in consultation with the course leader, which speaks to their own interests and allows them to pursue a particular period, genre, author or critical issue in greater depth.
