To check the equivalence of your qualification or experience please email: info@napier.ac.uk Course information: This groundbreaking course, the first of its kind in the UK, is based on the experience of our staff working worldwide in wildlife conservation, developing sustainable livelihoods through the conservation of communities and natural resources. It combines both cutting edge research and practice, with a strong emphasis on the skills required for a better understanding of the natural environment. You do not necessarily need to have a biological background as you will quickly become aware of the main scientific principles. You ll also gain a strong business knowledge and valuable consultancy experience which provides you with the skills for future employment. You will learn through a variety of teaching methods including lectures, tutorials, laboratory sessions, field trips, and through independent study. There may also be some opportunities to study abroad. Successful completion of trimester 1 qualifies you for the PGCert trimester 2 qualifies you for the PGDip. Trimester 1 -Scientific Methods -Humans & Wildlife, and Environmental Management for Ecotourism -Tourism Concepts & Issues -Managing Heritage Tourism Trimester 2 -Field & Laboratory Skills -Evolution of Taxonomy -Case Studies in International Tourism or Tourism, Hospitality & Events Project Trimester 3 -Independent research project successful completion of this qualifies you for the MSc. Career prospects: As a rapidly expanding industry, graduates with an up to date knowledge are invaluable to consultants and practitioners alike. The skills you gain will you prepare you for work in a number of areas. These can include United Nations Development Programme internship, local and national government, sustainable tourism projects and teaching. The emphasis on research in this course equips you with the knowledge and skills required to continue on to postgraduate study, including possible PhD study within the school and a further academic career.

 

Entry Requirements

Typically, you will need an honours degree with a suitable background in biology, tourism, geography, language, psychology or business. Alternative qualifications combined with appropriate experience may be considered on an individual basis.
