Course Description
AIMS This programme is aimed at graduate engineers who wish to specialise in key electrical technologies applicable to marine engineering in a multidisciplinary approach. PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION You take a selection of taught modules (100 credits) and undertake a research project and dissertation (80 credits). Compulsory modules (70 credits) may include: marine electro-technology marine electrical power systems marine electric propulsion marine machinery systems ship propulsion data analysis and interpretation and research skills. Optional modules (30 credits) are selected from a list that typically includes: marine production technology ship performance at sea optimal marine design marine management technology surveying ships and offshore installations marine power transmission. This programme is also available with a Preliminary Year, which is designed for students who have a qualification from a technical college rather than an Honours degree. Typically, you select one module (20 credits) from: marine engineering design marine design offshore design small craft design. You also take 70 credits of optional modules and complete a project and report (30 credits). TYPICAL FUNDING Companyemployer sponsorship and School studentships. A second-class Honours degree, or international equivalent. Relevant professional experience is desirable, although not essential.
