Course Description

Why not come and see Swansea for yourself? We have three Postgraduate Open Days each year (Autumn, Spring and Summer) which will give you the chance to find out more about our courses and funding, meet staff and students, and tour our outstanding seafront campus. See http:www.swansea.ac.ukpostgraduateopendays for dates and booking information _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The School of Engineering has an excellent reputation for Civil Engineering and was ranked 2nd in the UK in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE). The MSc course in Civil Engineering provides high quality postgraduate training for national and international students in civil engineering. It is designed to attract both recent graduates and practising professionals from related industries who are required to pursue a further learning matching section in order to achieve a Chartered Engineer status. The modules on this course can also be studied as stand-alone modules for those in employment seeking professional development or further knowledge in particular subject fields. The civil engineering sector is one of the largest employers in the UK, the current demand for civil engineering graduates is very strong and is predicted to have a healthy growth for the next few years. Our aim is for students to develop the potential to become future leaders and champions of industry. The aim of the course is to provide an in-depth training in more advanced knowledge and particularly modelling and analysis techniques for the solution of problems in civil engineering analysis and design. The specific objectives are: - to provide students with in-depth knowledge and exposure to conventional and innovative ideas and techniques to enable them to develop sound solutions to Civil Engineering problems - to provide students with practical computer experience in the application of computational techniques to the solution of range of current practical civil engineering applications using modern software, so that they may be able to apply the approach with confidence in an industrial context - to provide practising engineers with the possibility of improving their understanding of computational techniques by attending individual course modules - to provide students with additional educational components, set out by the Institutions of Civil and Structural Engineers and other UK and European engineering professional institutions, for a further learning matching section needed to qualify as a Chartered Engineer. This course provides students with the knowledge, motivation, and self-learning skills required for continuous professional development during their future careers and provides valuable experience of working on complex projects both as individuals and as team members. Compulsory Modules: - Reservoir Simulation - Advanced Fluid Mechanics - Dynamics and Transient Analysis - Communication skills for research engineers - Finite Element Computational Analysis - Advanced Structural Design - Advanced Structural Analysis - Entrepreneurship for Engineers - Group project - Research Project Optional modules: - Computational Fluid Dynamics - Advanced Structural Simulation FUNDING: For further details see: http:www.swansea.ac.ukscholarshipstaughtmasters International Students: For details of scholarships for international students visit: http:www.swan.ac.ukscholarshipsInternational
