Course Description

The Endodontology (Advanced Training) MClinDent is an intensive full-time programme designed to enable applicants from outside the European Union to meet Specialist Training requirements where three years of study is required. What and how will I learn? The programme enables students to consolidate their knowledge and skills, through laboratory work and clinical components, such as a restorative course with attachments in conservative dentistry, prosthetics and periodontology. A trauma rota enables hands-on experience in the management of traumatic injuries, patients with special needs, and chronic facial pain diagnosis. Degree Structure Students undertake courses to the value of 360 credits. The third year of study is non-credit bearing. Year One: Core courses (135 credits) dissertation (30 credits). Year Two: Core courses (135 credits) dissertation (60 credits). Core Modules Clinical Science Principles of Treatment Scientific Foundation of Endodontic Practice (basic level) Development & Consolidation of Clinical Endodontic Skills Operative and Advanced Endodontic Technical Skills Scientific Foundation of Endodontic Practice Endodontic Relationships with other Dental Disciplines Advanced Clinical Endodontic Skills Dissertationreport All students undertake an independent research project in years one and two, which culminates in a dissertation of 13,000-15,000 words. Options All courses are compulsory. Students are encouraged to develop a range of different vocation-specific and transferable skills. Assessment is through practical, clinical and oral examination, written papers, essays and the dissertation. Why should I study this degree at UCL? Your future career There is an overseas demand for dental surgeons who are highly knowledgeable in Endodontology and possess specialised clinical skills in Endodontics. The programme prepares students for the MClinDent examination and any future professional evaluation of clinicalacademic competence as a specialist. It is also a suitable spring-board for pursuing academic, clinical or research careers in Endodontics. Entry Requirements All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years clinical experience. All candidates wishing to train on a programme leading to a Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) must have a minimum of two years of post-graduate experience working as a registered dentist and be eligible for full registration with the General Dental Council. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides appropriate written confirmation and attaches this to their application. Applicants who do not provide this confirmation will not be put forward for shortlisting. Entry Requirements

All applicants must normally hold an approved dental qualification and have a minimum of two years' clinical experience post-qualification.
