Course Description

Sustainable tall building design is a very wide ranging research-based task, encompassing urban design, structural design, multi-use planning, fire and safety engineering, elevator and environmental systems design, plant ecology, social concepts, tectonics, advanced construction and site management. Uniting it all must be a holistic environmental strategy which combines bioclimatic design and urbanistic thinking. The course provides a series of taught design projects and seminar and lecture programmes. Tall buildings are introduced through technical, urban design, modelling workshops, precedent case studies and design tasks. The course includes drawing, physical and computer modelling as tools for analysis, form finding, video, communication and design. Student work is featured in conferences, articles and websites as examples of innovative thinking for the very complex ideas of sustainable tall buildings. Entry Requirements
