Course Description

One of the most well-respected courses in occupational psychology in Britain, this course is approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS) for accreditation towards chartership in occupational psychology. Students applying must be eligible for BPS Graduate Basis of Registration and hold at least an upper second class Honours degree. The MSc in Occupational Psychology is offered by the Institute on either a one-year, full-time or a two-year, part-time basis. The course has been designed to provide students with knowledge of the main areas of occupational psychology, to provide them with good research skills, to cover the relevant social psychological and organisational issues and to introduce the skills required in practice. The course has been approved by the Training Committee of the Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and gives exemption from the Society?s Post-Graduate Certificate in Occupational Psychology (PCOP). Chartered status in occupational psychology is achieved by demonstrating: (i) sound knowledge and understanding of the eight core areas of occupational psychology (ii) practical application skills in five of the above areas and (iii) competence to practise independently in one of the four fields of practice of occupational psychology. The MSc meets the first set of requirements and provides some experience toward the second set of requirements through workshops and practical exercises. The course thus provides accelerated progression towards Chartered Occupational Psychologist status. Career prospects for occupational psychologists exist in a wide variety of settings. Past Nottingham graduates have obtained employment in industry, consultancy firms, research and teaching, the MOD, Civil Service, Prison Service and the NHS. The Institute is currently compiling an alumni database of more detailed information regarding the employment destinations of its graduates. Through our comprehensive programme, which includes workshops on Consultancy Skills and opportunities for British Psychological Society s Test User Qualifications, you will have the facility to develop practical skills fundamental to your future career development.
