International experience and Mobility service (IEMS) IEMS is Coventry University’s dedicated service that supports students’ international experience. Whether you are interested in studying abroad or would like to gain some work, volunteering or teaching experience in Europe or beyond, IEMS is here to make it a reality. Students have a chance to work with organisations that aim to make a social impact through the Entrepreneurship at CU (I@CU) scheme launched as part of the Social enterprise for Employability Development (SEED) project. International students can also be supported in gaining work/work-related experience in the UK. Through the UK Work Experience initiative, postgraduate international students in the University can get access to short-term and long-term graduate placements opportunities; Those already working also get a chance to showcase and develop their skills to enhance their competitiveness in the job market. This includes the opportunity to enhance their employability and showcase the skills they have attained through the Advancing Student Skills Employability Training (ASSET) programme. Students work in group sessions and individual appointments to prepare them for the graduate placements and in order to match them to opportunities available, both during their studies and for as long as they need it following graduation. This includes training on professional skills, UK work culture, CV checks, and employability training. Reflective practise which is a mandatory requirement within ASSET, gives the students a chance to critically examine and challenge the work done, relate it to theory and demonstrate the skills gained. Students who go through the ASSET programme are awarded with a certificate upon completion. Additionally, postgraduates who go through the ASSET programme will also be able to gain points towards the Global Leaders Programme Feedback from past students has been very positive and many have indicated that they valued the chance to relate and enhance the skills gained through doing a real piece of work. IEMS will guide and mentor students at every stage and funding is available notably from sources including the European Union’s Leonardo Da Vinci programme and Erasmus – in fact, between 2011 and 2012 Coventry University arranged more Erasmus study placements than any other post-1992 University*. You can also apply for financial support of up to £500** towards any project or placement with an international dimension and we will also provide logistical support to ensure your experience goes smoothly.
